Project #14

  1. Special Education includes a wide range of abilities. Students with moderate, severe, and profound disabilities would not be able to do this. That leaves students with mild disabilities. Which leads me to my next question... Does a student who has a hard time learning and retaining information really need to know the history of a mosaic? The art activity sounds wonderful and I think all the students would enjoy creating their mosaics. A student in a self-contained class cannot work on the same task for a straight 80 minutes. This lesson would be great for a general education class. Students who are in inclusion could do this as well.

  2. I have many accommodations for students with more severe disabilities, I am well trained in how to do so. For choosing which color paint, I will use the method of either eye gaze of choices by hand (red is in my left hand, greed in my right hand and they point to the hand of the color they want). For painting, we will use the hand over hand technique, which even works with profound students. So all students will be included in this lesson. Although some students are special needs, all students need to acquire some history knowledge. I think this is a simple way I will incorporate it in my classroom. It also ties to a Fall themed art project, which is fun and hands on. The reason for day 2 being 80min is because there will be many students who need one-on-one help with the project. There are 3 different parts to day 2, so I do not expect my students to sit for the full 80 minutes. I know better than that.
